Overview
Beta Sigma Fraternity was formed in 1966 in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. The Fraternity has its motto as EXCELLENCE.
Beta Sigma is a social, cultural, philanthropic, national and international voluntary service organization for graduates and undergraduates of Nigeria Universities. The Fraternity instill in its members, the fraternal feelings of oneness, the social feeling of participation and the purposeful feeling of dedication to noble causes for the benefit of the society.
“In the irresistible tides of history, there are crucial times when individuals rise to dedicate themselves completely to larger causes, apart from the simplistic notions of selfishness and apathy, such moments call for the humanity and compassion of men – a shared desire to associate together in the pursuit of nobility of purpose, devotion to duty and dignity in individual existence. It is a practical outgrowth of this commitment to excellence that we have formed the BETA SIGMA – dedicating it to the great ideal that though the future may be beyond the vision of man, it cannot completely be beyond his control.” – Beta Sigma Founders; 1966.
The above preamble is the basis of the existence of Beta Sigma as a Fraternity and everyday life of its members. The Fraternity is dedicated to rendering services to its members, the local communities where it maintains chapters and the nation. It instills in each member, self confidence and respect in oneself through his ability in service projects.
Members share with others but also carry their own load in demonstration of the true meaning of philanthropy. The Fraternity enriches members’ lives through several social, cultural and philanthropic activities. Through these, each member is prepared to be his best, do his best and share the best side of himself with others at all times.
This background equips members to be conscious of their responsibilities to fellow men, in their community, the nation and to mankind. Beta Sigma is a non religious, non-political and non ethnic organization. Beta Sigma having existed for the past 50 years and maintains the following Graduate Chapters around the world and in Nigeria.

Beta Sigma still maintains her Undergraduate Chapters in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and Enugu Campuses from where young members are inducted after a year as inceptives.
These members are tutored along the line of the ethics, visions, missions and codes of conduct of the fraternity while encouraging them and instilling in them, the culture of Excellence in all ramifications.
These members upon graduation are admitted into a Graduate Chapter where they settle, in pursuit of livelihood and exhibition of excellence.
The Graduate Chapters undertake projects in their host cities and communities, in adherence to the culture imbibed from the University, engaging in social, cultural, philanthropic and charitable ventures.
They further hold annual conferences, capacity building workshops, Social Housing projects and welfare donations to disabled homes, orphanages, schools and hospitals.
